"One of Devon's Finest Golf Courses"
Designed by Adrian Stiff and commissioned in 1991, Dainton Park has matured into an outstanding test of golf. As with his other notable designs, such as the Kendleshire and the Players Club near Bristol, Stiff has created 18 different challenges, all equally memorable.
Initially the introduction of 20,000 young saplings and numerous lakes and ponds gave the course definition, but over time each hole has developed its own character.
Elevated tees offer stunning views over the surrounding countryside, and wide, inviting fairways follow the natural contours of the landscape. Numerous bunkers and water features pepper the fairways and several patches of unkempt rough will to trap the wayward, whilst well protected greens require a thoughtful approach and an accurate short game.
The designer's trademark railway sleepers are evident throughout the course, with over a thousand of them used during construction, particularly around tees and greens. We have not forgotten about the wildlife either, with several species of bird and waterfowl resident across the course, all adding to that elusive 'away from it all' feeling.
This golf course is simply a pleasure to play.
